FAQ
- My notes are only on this device. That is normal. Sync is optional and needs an approved Lumbre account.
- I lost my recovery code. Without another linked device the sync key cannot be recovered. Local notes stay on the device.
- I forgot the password of a locked note. It cannot be recovered.
Tabs
With two or more notes open, the note bar shows a strip of tabs. With a single note there is no bar. Tabs are for desktop (macOS, Windows, Linux and the web on desktop); the iPhone does not have them.
- Open in a new tab. Middle-click a note in the list or in Recents; ⌘Return (Ctrl+Enter on Windows and Linux) in the list or in the command palette (⌘K); or “Abrir en pestaña nueva” (Open in new tab) in the note's menu. If the note is already open, its tab is selected: the same note never has two tabs. A normal click changes the note in the active tab.
- Switch tabs. Click a tab, or use ⌃Tab and ⌃⇧Tab for the next and previous tab (Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab on Windows and Linux). With focus on the strip, the arrow keys move between tabs, Home and End go to the first and last tab, and Return or Space activates the tab.
- Close a tab. Use the × on the tab, middle-click it, press Delete with focus on it, or press ⌘W (Ctrl+W on Windows and Linux) when there are two or more tabs. With a single tab, ⌘W does what it always does: on macOS it closes the window; on Windows and Linux it does nothing.
- Many tabs. When the tabs do not fit, the strip scrolls and a ⌄ button appears with the “Notas abiertas” (Open notes) menu. In a narrow window, the strip is replaced by a “Notas abiertas” (Open notes) button.
- What is kept. Each tab remembers its back and forward history, and the cursor and scroll position. The limit is 50 tabs.
- Tab marks. A tab shows at most one mark. In order: red dot if the note cannot save (the text stays in memory and the save is retried), a mark for a pending conflict copy, lock if the note is locked, and trash if it is in the trash.
- When you open the app. The tabs from last time come back, on this device and in this library: the same order, the same active tab, and pinned tabs still pinned. The cursor and the back and forward history do not come back. Notes that were deleted, are in the trash or are archived do not come back. If you have a start note, its tab is selected or it opens in a new tab.
- Tab menu. Right-click the tab, or press the Menu key or ⇧F10 with focus on it. It has “Cerrar” (Close), “Cerrar las demás” (Close others), “Cerrar las de la derecha” (Close tabs to the right), “Fijar pestaña” or “Soltar pestaña” (Pin or Unpin tab), “Reabrir pestaña cerrada” (Reopen closed tab), “Abrir en nueva ventana” (Open in new window) and “Mostrar en la carpeta” (Show in folder).
- Reopen a closed tab. From the command palette (⌘K) or the tab menu. Hebra remembers the last 10 tabs you closed in this session. The tab returns to its place, active and with its cursor. If you closed several at once, they reopen from the last to the first.
- Pin a tab. A pinned tab goes to the start of the strip, with a pin and no ×. It does not close with ×, Delete, middle-click or ⌘W (Ctrl+W on Windows and Linux): only with “Cerrar” in its menu. With a pinned tab active, opening another note (from the list, Recents, a link, the palette or New note) opens it in a new tab. Back and forward also open in another tab.
- Reorder. Drag the tab with the mouse or a pen (Esc cancels). With the keyboard, use ⌥← and ⌥→ (Alt+← and Alt+→ on Windows and Linux) with focus on the tab. With a finger, the strip only scrolls. Pinned tabs only move among pinned tabs.
- Drag a note to the strip. Drag a note from the list to the strip and it opens in that spot. If it was already open, its tab moves there. This only works while the strip is visible, that is, with two or more tabs.
- Links. ⌘-click (Ctrl+click on Windows and Linux) or middle-click a link to another note to open it in a new tab. You can also use “Abrir en pestaña nueva” in the link's menu. If the link points to a section, the new tab jumps to it.
- Undo and folded sections. When you return to a tab, ⌘Z (Ctrl+Z) undoes what you typed there and folded sections stay folded. If the note changed in the meantime (by sync or from another window), there is nothing to undo. Protected notes never keep their undo history. None of this is saved when the app quits.
When a note is deleted or archived, its tab closes. Closing a tab whose save is failing does not ask for confirmation: the text stays in memory and is retried while the app is open. Plugins act on the note in the active tab.
